Does anyone have a good recipe for wheaten bread, just like granny used to make it? I have tried those Mortons mixes but they just don't hit the mark.

Many thanks,

Try This recipe:-

12 oz Coarse Wholemeal flour
4oz Fine Wholemeal flour
6oz Plain flour
3 Tblsps Castor Sugar (rounded)
4 Tblsps Olive oil
1/2 teasps salt
3 teasps Baking Soda (rounded)
1 pint Buttermilk

Put all ingredients into bowl and mix well. Split into 2 x 2lb loaf tins ( greased ). Sprinkle tops with a little fine wholemeal flour.
Bake at 170 C for 45 minutes approx.
(Maybe turn tins around 1/2 way through baking time.)

Sorry! Try CastER not CastOR !!

warpig, I'd be interested to know if that wheaten bread recipe comes anywhere close to your granny's recipe( when you have had a go at it.)
