Can anyone explain the differences between tea cakes, oven bottoms, barm cakes and any other regional variations.

Tea cakes usually have currants / raisins in them, don't think the others do although someone may know different.
That is a currant teacake Sammy!!!! I'm guessing your from the North East!!!! A teacake is what you have your chips in in a chip butty!!!
Barm cakes!!! Im from the north but living in the south, my husbands from the south and whenever I say get some barm cakes he laughs, yes barm cakes is a nothern expression of a bread roll, to find out more try answers.com.
