i have managed to master the art of cooking white (basmati) rice - finally! now i want to switch to healthier brown rice. does the same method work? for white rice i wash it, bring to boil in twice as much water as rice, heat right down and simmer for 10 mins on lowest heat, then lid on with eat off for 10 minutes and the white rice is perfect.

Your simmer stage will be nearer 25 mins for brown rice.

pea pod - do you know if the ratio of water to rice (ie 2 to 1 for white) should be increased on the water side? i would be concerned it would simmer dry.
Sorry just came back on. Iwould just keep an eye on it and top up if necessary.I sometimes soak it in warm water for a couple of hours first. This gets rid of some of the hardness and gives it a better start.
Mandimoo I should have said Brown Rice doesnt absorb the water as quick as white thats why your water should be ok.
