I don't know about the UK but in rest of Europe it's the same strength of coffee in half the water!

It is usually stronger because there is less water. Imagine going to make a cup of instant coffee as usual but only putting about 2 inches of water in the bottom of the mug...

So same amount of coffee but less water makes it taste stronger.

Its more concentrated so yes a lot stronger.
