Scampi is another name for Dublin Bay Prawns, Nephrops norvegicus
Toglet is correct. Scampi is defined in UK food regulations as the whole tail ofNephrops Norvegicas which is actually a lobster. Common names for this species include Dublin Bay Prawn, Norway Lobster and Langoustine.
UK regulations don't apply to scampi sold as ' breaded ' so breaded scampi is often made up of a mixture of related species and usually includes prawn, squid and the much cheaper Korean scampi.
In the US and Canada scampi has a different meaning. There it refers to a dish of shrimps cooked in garlic and oil.
