Xmas Dinner
8 Answers
Where do I start? I know I'm leaving this a bit late but I need some advice? I want to make a basic Xmas dinner for 2. I'm really not that good of a cook! We'll be having either beef or chicken but my main concern also, is making sure the veg & potatoes come out just right and just tasty!!! Any suggestions? Thanks & a very Merry Xmas to you all!

Quarter them up and par boil for about 10 mins. .. 30 mins before you want to eat stick these around your meat.(give them a good baste with the meat juices.) Sprouts 25 mins, new pots 25 mins. Cut carrots into strips, par boil for 10 mins then put into a tin foil parcel with a knob of butter and put in the oven. If you want to do cauliflower that will be about 25 mins also. A joint or chicken for 2 of you should take about 1 and half hours to cook. Buy something special for dessert. Merry Xmas.
Sounds as if you are a real novice pots would be potatoes
Think your sprouts would be overcooked in 25 minutes and would not baste potatoes for roasting with meat juices if you like them at all crispy - just coat them with a little oil or clean fat and cook on high (best to take out your joint to 'rest') before turning up heat
Hopefully your chicken or beef will have weight and cooking time on label
Enjoy your meal!

Bless your heart ... I have been cooking roast dinners for donkeys years now so it's easy peasy but even in my day when we had cookery at school they never taught us how to cook and get a roast dinner on the table !! It was a hit and miss affair at the best of times when I first made had to do it .
I'm sure you will be fine ...nobody mentioned the Yorkshire puddings though .
Buy some Aunt Bessies ,work backwards with the timings and have a lovely meal .Happy Christmas.
