Butter on bacon sandwiches !!! ?

In Derbyshire we don't put butter on our bacon sandwiches, however I've noticed that you don't have to travel far south before they do. It fascinates me, where does this begin, and where else does this happen ?

i never did it with butter in birmingham till an irishman did me a bacon sandwich with marge, always had marge/butter since, now live in wales (south) and i believe most people do it with butter.

I live in Bristol and the wife has butter on hers but i just spread a little sauce red or brown on each bit of bread instead of butter.

I find in Manchester many places tend to ask if you want butter/spread though.
