Not tried Mars, but I do have a recipe for Bounty bars with pineapple from one of Nigella's books. Sounds rather nice. The secret apparently is to use fizzy water in the batter.
Because it tastes nice. If you don't think that's enough of a justification for having it, then "because it's character-building" or "because it's morally uplifting".

ive never tried one - but find the thought of it rather disgusting and off putting.
people probably thought the same when they first tried an unfertilised egg from a chicken, or warm milk from a cow's teat! be adventurous - its not in the least bit good for you, but I guarantee it it will be the nicest thing you've never had.
could you explain to me how it stays in a mars bar shape, my logic suggests it must just melt, all seems a bit dangerous, for more reasons than the cholesterol
much like a baked alaska, it has an outer coating - namely in this case "batter" the same as yer fish has when you buy that from the chippy. It goes a wee bit gooey inside but as its only in the fat long enough to put a nice crispy coating around the outside, doesn't actually melt all over the show. easy to make at home too if yer feeling adventurous.

I asked in my chipshop how they made them and they said the important thing is that they are frozen solid by the time they go in the batter. They also said that they had many school children coming in saying they'd tried to make them at home and had ruined their mother's deep fat friers, because they hadn't frozen them first
5029, the extra step of freezing the bars doesn't cause a huge degree of difficulty. Just an extra hour or so to wait.
