Hi - I have a new cake tin! The instructions say that I should grease it with vegetable shortening - not butter, marg, lard or any other fat! Does any one know is something like TREX vesgetable fat or is is something else? I have not done anything like this before and I know nothing! Thanks in advance

I have always used Trex as a alternative to lard ie when making pastry, but was told recently that it is one of the more worrying fats (can not recall what was the problem) - does it actually say not to use those other types of fat as if it is just to grease the tin a bit of vegetable margarine doesn't seem that risky

apparently cookeen has been reformulated to take out trans-fats. couldnt find out about whether trex is transfat-but this might have been the bad fat Ruby27 refers to.

It is available in Sainsbury, Asda, Kwiksave, Morrisons and Co-op stores.

i always grease baking tins with sunflower oil or olive oil, they're both vegetable (obviously). just put some on a piece of kitchen roll and smear it round the tin. never had a problem yet.
