New York Hotdog stands
5 Answers
I may be going to New York this year. Are the hotdogs from hotdog stands on the corner of Central Park as good as they look in the movies?
I like the boiled style (Herta etc) but they are sometimes frightfully bland in the UK.

It really kind of depends on what you put on the dog, but in Central Park, my favorite would be the Hebrew National All Beef hot dog with sauerkraut, kosher mustard and red onions. (No close in business meetings after this one). Some prefer Nathan's, however... Expect to pay between $2.50 and $4.00 USD...
I loved them too! They aren't just on the corner of Central Park though, they're all through Manhatten, and apparently the closer you get to Central Pk, the more expensive they get so beware! We paid $2 around Times Sq but friends of ours paid $4 beside Central Pk!
Also, be careful about your change as a couple of different friends/relatives of mine have almost got shortchanged by the vendors! (when they were seen to be checking the change, the vendor swiftly handed them another $10 note, making the change correct)
Different stands tend to sell variations on hotdogs - we got lovely chilli frankfurters on one stand, and some other stand sell non-pork sausages too so keep an eye out for different kinds
