Which way do you peel YOUR banana?

Can anyone settle a dispute between me and mum?

I've always peeled my bananas with the stem (or stalk) at the top. and just holding the banana in the middle.

My mum however has always peeled from the bottom (or what *I* call the bottom) and uses the stem as a handle.

Obviously it's down to personal opinion, but we're interested to know which is the most preferable and easiest way to eat your banana?

Well I peel from the stalk like you do. The only thing I know about "banana ettiquette" is that a lady will never hold the full banana in her hand and eat it...mannerrs insist that small bite sized pieces are broken off one at a time.

You should peel a banana from the stalk downwards, everybody knows that!

How do you get the peel going from the other end anyway? I always bend/snap the stalk to get the peel started!

I peel it from the stalk, cant imagine how or why you would peel it from the bottom.

Warpig, if you actually see bananas growing, the stem end is the "bottom".

Yes, warpig, they grow "upside down". The first time I saw a banana plant I was really amazed. The bananas grow pointing upwards, and below each cluster of them there is a purplish spherical "milk-pod' from which they gain their sustenance.

a monkey peels it from the non stalk end .........so ive tried it and its much better

Well as I hate bananas in any form or shape I couldn't tell you which way to peel it , but don't try swallowing it whole sideways !!!

I'll peel it from the stalk first , only slightly to check, and if it turns out to be a little brown (over-ripe) from that end, I'll quickly turn it over and start peeling it from the stem where hopefully, it is usually ripe and just right. I take off the brown bits with a knife.

Hate bananas unless just turning yellow - always peel from opposite end to the stalk - much easier .

I hold it at the stalk and throw it gently downwards so the stalk splits and gravity peels it down to a suitable position.

Takes a bit of practice not to overshoot it. You need to be quick so the stem snaps but not so you end up with your half peeled banana on the floor!

a jamaican family that i know insists that it is easier to peel a banana from the 'other' end as opposed from the stalk as we brits do it. They say that if you peel it their way then you have the stalk to use as a handle to hold the nana. Ive tried it and it does peel easier from the other end. Tastes the same tho dunnit lol .
