Sodium benzoate (E211) has been found to break down to produce benzene - cancer causing and cell depleting stuff when exposed to ascorbic acid or Vit C, or citric acid in soft drinks.

Avoid where you can but it used as a preservative so check the labels.

Water is good for you.......
Oh and the Pot.sorbate is a mould inhibitor - anti-fungal stuff - and there are several types used in different foodstuffs depending on the shelf lie, pH of the product etc.

Use in drinks is to extend the shelf life by preventing the growth of yeats in the mixtures and its anti bacterial properties. It also has a shelf life of its own and will break down to affect the flavour of the foodstuffs over time, so do not buy those cheap nearly out of date juices by the way. Unless you enjoy ingesting formaldehydes......

Make your own smoothies from fresh, washed fruits etc to avoid the chemical mixes you get in cans...
