healthy dieting without hunger pangs

Does anyone have a diet I can follow that will not make me snack on unhealthy stuff during the day? Im usually very hungry but now Ive gained weight Im really concerned. Im 6 feet tall, 26 yrs old and weigh neatly 95kg so I could do with losing a couple of stones! I've never had the discipline to just starve but I eat all kinds of food so Im flexible in that way. Is it just eating wholemeal bread, pasta and rice along with grilled meats?

Starving yourself is definitely not the way to go about loosing weight in a healthy way or to keep it off.
The main thing to avoid is fats, so cutting down by grilling not frying, not eating too many take aways, avoid pizza like the plague, well anything really with cheese. Also sugary things such as sweets alcohol. Eat as much fresh veg and fruit to fill up with, and complex carbs such as wholemeal flour, oats, quinoa and brown rice.
The other important thing is to have healthy snacks available so if a hunger pang occurs you can eat some fruit rather than a biscuit. Also eat as slowly as possible, concentrate on eating, not watching tv or reading, so every mouthful counts.
A low GI diet is healthy and good for weight loss/maintenance
Finally have some treats, glass of wine, chocolate or whatever is your fav, have as a treat only but to stop yourself feeling deprived
Try the weight watchers points diet. It basically gives all foods a points value, you have a daily points limit and can eat what you like as long as you don't go over your limit. The great thing about it is, that foods that are really good for you have a points value of zero, i.e most vegetables, and they provide you with some great recipes that have zero points value such as lovely vegetable soups and casseroles. You can make a large batch and then if you get some hunger pains you can just have a bowl of that to snack on. It's also good because it encourages you to exercise. It gives you a list of activities that you can do and if you do then you earn extra points. For example, 15 minutes of skipping earns you an extra 2 points of food allowance for that day.

cool. I like the idea of weight watchers as long as its not expensive and it doesnt involve a weekly visit to a local weighing centre.
I think you can do weightwatchers online. but like everything else, you gotta pay!
I too am overweight, I just try to eat healthily and eat fruit, nuts, yoghurts between meals. So far it is working, slowly but surely.
The way I look at it, at least the weight is not going on.

How long have you been doing weightwatchers for? How do you manage to curb the hungerpangs between meals?
I started to lose weight accidentally when I was very ill after an operation that had horrible side effects for me! Gave me the confidence to continue tho' so now I use Alpen light bars if I need a snack Less than 70 calories and taste good too The chocolate (sparce!) and orange are the nicest I think but they are very effective in staving off the hunge pangs andeasy to carry with you as well Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

Thanks. I've done nothing but eat raw vegetables dipped in low fat houmous today and munched on fruit. It's tough for me!
Bit late to the party but....

No no no, bread past and rice are all complex carbs which get broken down by the body quickly and release large amounts of energy, that increases insulin production and it's likely the body won't use the energey release quickly enough. That has two effects, a crash which means the body requires more food and secondly the excess enegery gets stored as fat.

What you need is low GI foods and protein with every meal, regular snacks and no complex carbs after 7 in the evening (you will be unlikely to use the energy released).

No going to clubs, only costs the price of the book , every meal is accounted for and I lost 10Kg (1 1/2 stones in 4 weeks), didn't feel hungry and the food in general is really nice.

Thanks for your suggestion Wowo. I know that white bread, potatoes and other white carbs are complex carbs that quickly release energy, but I had thought that the wholemeal versions of bread, rice and pasta were low in GI and thus slowly released energy. Arent they meant to be good for you?
Of course, willpower is required to lose weight.
Im on my third day of the diet and so far so good. Im snacking on fruit, vegetables with low fat hummus, as well as rice cakes and monkey nuts. I've also switched to artifical sweetener on my coffee and skimmed milk, both of which are greatly affecting my enjoyment of coffee.
My GP says that my ideal weight is 76kg so Im 19 kg overweight! I'd be thrilled nonetheless to lose 2 stones, which would take me down to 80kg...the last time I weighed that was 8 years ago though. I think the winter flu of 99 had something to do with that.
