Does ouzo have any particular qualities which are not shared by other alcoholic spirits? I ask this because, after a day of forcing water down for my ouzo-laden hangover, a friend pointed out this is worst thing I could do. True or rubbish?
Whether true or not, it's certainly a common belief - I've heard it said about Ouzo as well as other aniseed drinks like Ricard and Pastis. Someone once told me that you should never drink water the day after you've got drunk on Pasis 'cause it dilutes any that was left in your body and makes you feel drunk again... don't believe it myself!
I agree Indiesinger, it goes against all logic. Having said that, certainly felt worse yesterday the more water I drank (but that may have been me sobering up!) and at 4pm someone said I smelt strongly of aniseed! whatever the facts, won't be touching it again!
the drinking water thing is a bit of a myth, but all those drinks do leave a varnish like layer of terpenes in your digestive tract which water would start to disturb.
