I am planning on making my daughters 2nd birthday cake, using a number 2 shaped caked tin. Are there any rules that should be follwed when using a novelty cake tin?
The only thing I can think of is if the tin is longer/thinner than the tin you would usually use then you may wish to check the cake 5-10 mins earlier than the normal cooking time as it may cook a bit quicker. Other than that, just make sure the mix is evenly spread and the tin throughly greased or lined with baking paper.
Do you think i need to weigh down the cake tin to stop the mixture leaking out underneath the tin and shall I cut the greaseproof paper to the exact shape of the cake tin or bigger ???
I'd put the greaseproof paper larger than the tin, and grease the paper well so that it more or less sticks to the tin. Also, put a strip around the sides of the tin. I did make a similar one for my eldest, but he's 19 now. I don't remember having any trouble with it - but don't leave it till the last minute - be prepared with spare cake mix just in case....
