smelly jam jars
9 Answers
i'm about to make some chutney and had great difficulty finding suitable jars. Asda were selling mint sauce for 3p each so i bought 15 and washed them out.
I've washed them in the dishwasher and boiled them but I can still smell the mint - especially on the lids.
Is there anything I can do to get rid of the smell?
thanks x

Putting the lids in (acidic) vinegar solution might end up making the metallic lids react funnily though. I soaked them for a couple of hours in soapy water.
Alternatively, you could just make interesting mint-flavoured chutneys. I'm not convinced that the amount of actual mint-smelling chemicals left on the lids would be detectable in the chutney anyway.
