Are they any good? What is the difference to cooking the traditional way? Is it just that it can be totally left till the time is up? I have just seen one on offer for 20.00

Sky - because I like rice instead of potatoes my family always trys to buy a rice cooker for me - but I won't let them. I can't imagine anything that would be easier than the way I do it now. This is my fail proof way and easier than washing a rice cooker afterwards:

1 Cup of Rice
2 Cups of Water or Stock

Put in a pot with a lid.
Bring to a boil.
Turn off the heat.
Put on the lid.
DO NOT TOUCH it for 15 minutes (no peeking AT ALL).

After 15 minutes take off the lid and fluff with a fork.

Note: If you don't have a measuring cup - you can use your coffee cup or anything you want to use. Just put in 2 times as much water or stock as you do rice.

Yes rice cookers are excellent because you can also cook pasta or even potatoes in them, so it makes it quite a versatile accessory.

Thanks for both your answers!
I bought a rice cooker from Argos 5 years ago and found it pretty useless. I would save the 20 quid and continue to boil rice the traditional way as described by the old chattanooga choo choo lady.

Well the thing is that the rice wouldnt come out as good and I always found a lot of starch stuck to it. Anyway always good to wash the rice before cooking it!
