I have a legitimate 20 pounds voucher to spend on Virgin Wines online:

www.virginwines.com

It needs to be used for a minimum spend of 59.88 GBP
so I was thinking of buying a mixed case to give as a xmas present. I was looking at something like this and wondering if it really is good value for money or not:

http://www.virginwines.com/product/prod_case_d etails.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442980036 &FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374303202777&aff=vi rgin&bmUID=1196774141446

I am no expert as I normally stick to bottles that cost under a fiver (sainsburys usually do good half price deals) so would appreciate any feedback. Worth it or not?

i am not a wine expert but we have recently had this case and it seems very drinkable to us and if i received the same again a a present i wouldn't be disappointed. Saying we are not wine experts though we can tell a nice wine from a nasty one and we wouldn't drink nasty plonk. To my mind this case isn't as nice as your fleurie or valpolocelli but its no where near as expensive either. A good buy for everyday drinking
For 40 this is very good value. Steam in!
may i suggest that with any reds you open the bottle a couple of hours before you want to drink it. this will make even a ruff bottle quite drinkable.

Excellent value at 40, even if you have to pay another 5 in postage.

Opening the bottle two hours before drinking does nothing - it needs to be decanted in to a jug or carafe to allow wine to aerate and breathe.
