George Foreman grill

I'm thinking of getting a George Foreman grill - anyone used them? What do you think of them? What do you cook on them? Are they worth the money? There are so many different types - which is the best? Thanks!

I have a george (the middle sized one as there are only two of us) and I think it is very good, it's the only one I can recommend!

I think they are excellent, great for quick healthy meals...my only tip would be get one with removable plates as they are a b***er to clean. If the plates come off they can go in the dishwasher, otherwise excellent.
Make sure you get a big enough one as well as they are quite slow if you overload them.

We called ours a George Formby grill because it was farcical. Oh, it cooked well enough, but the hassle of cleaning it afterwards was absurd, plus all the grease to get rid of.
We rapidly reverted to our old cast iron griddle-plate...you can get one from Kitchen Craft for about twelve quid...which does precisely the same thing. Its great beauty is that all you do when cooking is finished is pour about an inch of warm water into the sink and lob the thing in. (I'm not sure how the plate would work on an electric cooker, but with gas it's fine.)
Obviously, it doesn't have a lid to cook from both sides, but turning things isn't really that dificult, is it?
To use it, you just put it across the two front hobs of your gas cooker and turn them on so that the flame is just touching the base of the griddle. A bit of trial and error may be necessary, but you'll soon get it just right. Leave to heat up for a few minutes, oil the surface lightly with a brush and then put the chicken, sausages, egg, mushrooms or whatever on to cook. Wonderful!
So, my view is that Formbies are definitely not worth the money. Of course, others will appear here and claim they are the greatest thing since sliced bread!

I don't have a problem cleaning mine - I use kitchen roll and then wipe it down with a dishcloth/sponge. I think they are fantastic. I have only got the small version, but I cook everything from meats to fresh fruit. Grilled apples orbananas are great grilled with fresh cream poured over! I would definately recommend them.
Mine is the very small version, that takes just one toasted sandwich, one steak etc - I wonder why I don't have a problem - is the size anything to do with it? I actually think it is easy enough to clean - for very sticky (like when I pour syrup over the fruit when cooking) I wait until cold then turn it back on for couple of secs and it glides off with kitchen roll!
I had GF before but wanted something a bit larger so I got this and I love it. If price is not an issue get this one.

unfortunately, like most gadgets you will use for a few weeks for the novelty and then it will be banished to the cupboard along with all the other items.
If you went to the Ideal Home Exhibition last year and bought at least one gadget are you still using it ? no of course not, I do this every year and always promise myself I wont do it again, but of course I do.
When they produce self-cleaning gadgets----------- I will be the first in the queue.
