Hi all. I have recently begun eating porridge for breakfast due to hearing of its health benefits. I wondered is it ok to try a little with my son who is 17 months old ? Thanks Alb

it should be fine as long as you make sure its well cooked. Dont add lots of sugar though, maybe add some fresh fruit for sweetness.
I've been giving Mini Boo porridge Ready brek for breakfast, especially on cold mornings since she was about one. I usually add a little bit of chocolate sauce or syrup to sweeten it, not much though.

she'll be getting a taste for fondant fancies next. Ready Brek with chocolate sauce... eurrgghhh. But porridge if it's not lumpy should be fine.
nota chance jno- she aint seen em, I wait till she's in bed before I get the Fancies out the cupboard! She makes do with Co-op's finest Borubons and custard creams as her treats....lol
oooh ready brek and choc sauce sounds yummy to me lol

We used to have semolina with strawberry sauce at school
lol Red, it started out as a bit of experiment really. I hated the thought of her not having 'something warm' in her on cold mornings and tried Ready Brek, but without loads of sugar I find it really bland so I squirted choc sauce in for her, the very fact there's chocolate in it makes her wolf it down :-)
so it's true what they say about British cuisine, then... <reaches for bucket>
yep jno, we have the best comfort food going :)
Comfort food - homemade mash potatoes - buttery & creamy

<mouth drooling>
Not that theres' owt wrong with chocolate sauce, but I stir in a bit of honey and it's lurvely-natural sugar and all that...
just watch with honey, think current guidelines are not for the under 2s.
British cuisine for the ost part is an embarrasment. It cannot be exported for consumption in other countries because most of it is vile. How many English restaurants have you seen abroad?
I was just coming back to make red's point about the honey. Don't want to poison any bambinos'!
Know what ya saying, but give me a good old fashioned roast dinner anyday over a curry or pasta.

sorry alb0679- we've gone off a tangent!
My boys had porridge from about 6 months old - you are probably better with the microwave individual packets as the oats tend to be finer. We always added fruit puree ice cubes (fresh or tinned fruit in fruit juice, blitzed with a blender, then frozen in ice cube trays) which gave it flavour and cooled it down fast. Now they mostly have honey or a blob of jam. No sugar ever. Jordans organic oats are great but much coarser and chewey.

Another good hot breakfast is wheetabix made with warm milk and added fruit puree - again no sugar.
Started my sons off on Olvarit Baby Porridge - which tastes fab!!! then they moved onto Ready Brek with a drizzle of honey.
