Who would I complaint to about a product being misrepresented by the packaging?

Is it the office of fair trading or is there a specific one for food?

Thanks

Its the Food Standards Agency, but I would copy your complaint to the shop and manufacturer as well.

What was it and why have you stopped hoovering??!!
Question Author
Morning sally, thanks for that.

Havent started hoovering yet, had to get mrwarpig out to school, he didn't want to go and hes a teacher, god help the kids!

I bought what I thought was a tin of John West red salmon, it had a shiny red label across the top and a drawing of a side of 'red' salmon underneath, and printed in quite bold shiny red it said 'wild alaskan salmon', so I bought it. Opened it yesterday and it was pink. On closer inpsection of the label it does state that it is 'reserve pink' but this writing is smaller and less obvious than the rest. I accept that it is what it says on the tin but it really cheesed me off.

I am going to ring the number in Liverpool later and see if I can get any joy as the website is for Heinz and when you go to contact us it tells you to ring Australia.

I never normally complaint but this made me really angry. Will be reading all labels now and probably avoiding John West products too.
I agree - I like to know what I am buying and hate being ripped off too!!

Am laughing too cos I got so obsessed at the end of my pregnancies about everything!!

Maybe thats it sally as this would not normally set me off, well not enough for me to actually do something about it (am lazy).
Def not lazy - its not easy carrying another person around all day!!

I had 3 stone extra and I remember the 40" waist well!!
Question Author
Ha, ha, waist, whats a waist? Oh yeah, I remember now!
You will have a waist once more someday!! Just may not look quite the same as before!!

Right I am off with my baby (Pickles the dog) for a nice walk now.

Good luck with the 'John West Piggy Attack' and try and rest and not clean ALL day!!

Sal x
Start off with your local Trading Standards people. They'll investigate for you. Might take a bit of time, as they're generally kept busy.
It will very much depend upon whether there are definitions for red and pink salmon. For example, I complained about those 'steak pies' which are simply a stew with a piece of puff pastry plonked on top. Alas, there is no legal definition of 'pie'.
Good luck!

Thanks heathfield, I have sent an e-mail to the FSA (I am on the ball today) and will wait and see what happens, possibly nothing but I do feel better for doing it.
