Cheese cake experience that wasn't right.

There is a very nice bakery close to my school that does fantastic cheesecake.

Upon an announcment of a lunch time "bun run" I ordered a cheesecake for myself.

To my immediate horror, but later pleasure I was given a very odd cake-come-pastry article.

It was a solid and heavy oblong block of layered pastry with jam and icing. Stuck on top was grated coconut.

In otherwords, it was far removed from what I consider to be a "Cheese Cake". However, the person who bought me this insisted it was a form of cheese cake.

Can anybody enlighten me to what I ate?

Yes, it was a coronory heart attack with icing, but very nice, especially if you like pastry.

Probably what they call a London Cheesecake ..we used to sell these in the bakers where I worked in Wimbledon .
If I can find some info I'll post it .

I am glad you have said that Abdul. I thought I was dreaming that these pastry things with icing on them were called cheesecake. My aunt and uncle used to buy them when I was little and they called them cheesecakes. I haven't seen or heard of them since then.

On another note, I make a mean lemon and raisin baked cheesecake. The harder the cheesecake, the better. Can't stand the soft type ones.
