Is there anyone else there who can't bear the smell, taste or texture of bananas. I simply cannot understand how anyone can bear to eat them.

The list of foods that I have smell/taste/texture issues with is really pretty extensive, but I must say that bananas aren't on it! As a person who doesn't eat much during the day (due to lazyness, mainly) they are great because they are ergonomically designed and come conveniently pre-wrapped, unlike the round of sandwiches/bowl of salad I should bother to make and take to work!

What annoys me, Elfin, is that I know they are amazingly good nutritionally and, as you say, so convenient. I would love to be able to eat them.
Aw I do know how you feel. I have the same thing with cheese, which makes a guest appearance on about 3 quarters of all dishes on any food menu anywhere, narrowing my selection somewhat... Only dodgy thing with bananas is the stringy bits which instantly fur your teeth up if you accidentally eat 'em (sorry Anniekon - I bet you're writhing in disgust at the very thought!).
I was force-fed on bananas regularly at primary school, and I haven't eaten any since IndieSinger was minus 6. All bananas are intrinsically evil, except Banana Mouskouri, because I have been to 3 of her concerts.
Yes you are correct, Bananas are pure evil. They smell and taste like sick. I beg the girl who sits next to me in work to throw her morning banana skin in the kitchen bin, rather then her bin under her desk, so I dont have to gag at the smell all day! Bananas should be banned from workplaces, the same as cigarettes! :)
Hhhmmm! Banana & custard - banana sandwiches - banana milkshakes! Sorry I just had to add that! I don't eat much during the day & only drink lots of water, so: 'two bananas a day keep the hunger away'!
P,S. I only like very fresh firm ones!

Try banana crumble, ideal for using up spotty bananas. mmm I love bananas
My partner won't eat them, or most fruit actually! He doesn't like the texture, makes him gag. He will just about eat apple pies and smoothies instead.
Not too keen on the idea of warm or cooked bananas, so don't know if I'd like banana crumble. The banana toffee balls you get in a chinese restaurant are so moooorish though!

When I was little my grandmother, deciding that my hatred of bananas was just a fad, mashed one up with condensed milk and sugar for my pud. I sat at the table for about four hours rather than eat it. Condensed milk and sugar is bad enough without adding evil bananas!!! I'm glad I'm not alone in hating them. Like you Moonhead, I can't even bear being near banana skins.
Poor you Annikon! When I was at the convalescent home, we were given macaroni pudding, yes those awful thick rubbery tubes! I remember being forced to sit there until I'd eaten it, even though I was gagging & quietly crying. Fortunately, we had little cotton cloths on our trays & I eventually managed to hide it, bit by bit, under the cloth. I'm sure one nurse knew I'd done this, but turned a blind eye. That has stayed with me all my life & I cannot stand anything that looks or tastes like macaroni.
me too Anniekon I absolutely hate them. My 6 year old daughter (evil evil child) adores them and recently found out about my dislike which is almost like fear and left one (peeled) in my shoe. I put my foot in and screamed and screamed and my husband couldn't move for laughing. I may leave the entire family soon.

Fortunately, Lisw, my child (now 21) feels exactly the same as me. He also has Elfin's thoughts on cheese. Your reply gave me a good giggle, though.
I can hardly eat bananas without gipping, they have an unpleasant cold gritty consistancy. I have the same issue with cold custard.
Interesting, did you know that a lot of cultures peel bananas from the bottom? I seem to remember in CZ everyone opened them and the bottom and thought I was off my rocker when I suggested doing it any different.

Thanks to you all. At least I know I am not alone when I have to run away from the bananas in the Supermarket!!! Three star ratings to all.
My brother's girlfriend can't even stand to be in the same room as a banana, and if I was to wave one (with the skin still on or off, it doesn't matter), she goes absolutely bonkers.
ewww bananas as the top selling fruit im amazed that so many people are disgusted by them too...i hate them... lets start a petition to ban them in public..they stink.... people, jus stop eatin them in public its horrible and embarrasing... by the way i have fruit phobia too i hate fruit n people who eat it near me..
