cauli cheese and lentils

when I was in hospital, years ago, my favourite meal(apart from the fantastic plum pie) was a cauliflower cheese bake with lentils.
I loved the way the lentils were sort of, mingled in with the cheese sauce, if you will. I can't think how to cook it.
Has anyone any idea?

thanks. I can't really see any other way of doing it!
So, I've just cooked the lentils in chicken stock, with a little onion and garlic.
They are on the bottom of the dish, covered with cooked cauli and then cheese sauce. It's ready in 10 - 'll let you know!
