Most likely not enough water in relation to the amount of spaghetti, and the size of the pot. You could also try adding a bit of oil to the pan, though this is not as crucial as having enough water. You should also make sure you stir the pasta several times during cooking. The other possible cause is over-cooking which will release more of the starch.
Maybe you're not using a large enough saucepan, you need a large one, and lots of water, I add a little oil, olive oil is best but you could use vegetable oil, you only need a couple of drops, it helps to stop the spaghetti from sticking together when you strain it too, hope this helps.....................welsh

Dropping any starchy product like pasta into boiling water will cause some starch to be released on its surface which forms a *glue* with anything it touches.... which is why it sticks to the saucepan unless you stir it immediately after you drop it into the water to shift the glued on bits... (do I sound like I know what I'm talking about here ?)

I bought a pasta pan. Its the only way to guarantee your pasta wont stick to the bottom of your pan. If you get one of these no pot problem, you should boil your pasta vigorously, add salt to raise the water temperature as well as to taste and as figure said, give it a little stir as soon as you add the pasta.
