Would a non-red meat eater be tempted by Ostrich meat?

Genetically it is more akin to poultry with very low fat and cholesterol, so as a carnivore I am thinking it will be OK.

Or is it the "blood" colour that may put folk off, and my reasoning is completely wrong.

I don't eat red meat as it may affect cholesterol levels. I heard that ostrich meat is low in fat and so would probably try it. Have you tried it? Is it any good?

I have tried it a few times and can confirm it is very nice. I would liken it to a very lean piece of fillet steak.

And you can have it rare, unlike poultry, which makes it even nicer.

It is hard to find however JoCan, so seek out a good butcher. To my knowledge, the supermarket chains do not stock it.

And its about the same price as fillet steak. Expensive compared to other things, but well, well worth it.

We are going to get some soon, and I'm looking forward to trying it!
My fella is from South Africa, and has found an online butcher kinda thing, that do all sorts of meats, so will soon also be trying Wilderbeast :)

That's very kind of you but my butcher can get it with a few days notice.

I imagine wilderbeast will taste like organic beef.

Has you man tried Zebra??? I suppose it will be like horse, which is a bit tough if you ask me.

I will ask him if he has when he gets in, and what other meats he has had.
I know he has had water buffalo, (is that the same as wilderbeast)!?

He has also had horse, although I dont think i would be to happy on trying that, would be a bit weird having grown up horse riding! Althoughn I find it even weirder that he ate it as he had a horse when he was growing up!

I love to go to a place called Vivat Bacchus try the springbok on ' Meat Nights' also if you pop in at lunch time not far away id Borough market and they have lots of interesting meats there at the moment ( according to my 'South African Friends' )
