To mark our sons graduation from Oxford Trinity we are holding a dinner party for friends.

Two couples are attending who live outside the UK, one couple in the USA and one in Australia.

What would be a good combination of cheese for the cheese course ?. - Shall we use good British cheese, or go for French ?

We have selected wine for the dinner, but as we are having quite a rich fruit dessert, would would make a good dessert wine ? I have been told that the Zimmermann-Graeff Ilbesheimer Herrlich Beerenauslese 2001 is a good start, but shall I go for something a bit more tangy ?.

We look forward to your replies.

Try Muscatel da Valencia. I'm not completely confindent in the spelling! It's a superb dessert wine.

Why thank-you kind Sir, I will consult Oddbins in the morning !

Kind Sir your spelling was nearly spot on.

It is Muscatel de Valencia.

I will investigate futher.

Respectfully yours
I'd go for either all english cheeses, don't forget the stilton OR a variety of european cheeses.
For dessert it has to be champagne as after all it is a celebration.
Asti Martini is a great substitute for Champagne. Sweeter and definitely cheaper!

Thankyou Kindly butterflies and Sir-Alex.

I will consider that option.
no, no, not champagne with dessert. try sainsbury's own 'moscatel de valencia' dessert wine. totally luscious.
i would serve champagne as the guests arrive but definately not with dessert.
for cheeses, i would go british.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Not Asti Martini. Please no. At 7% alcohol it is barely a wine. It is fine for 15 year old girls.
The Spanish Cava is pretty good. We have used it for a good sub for champers. Since Gillie Goolden "discovered" it about 4 years ago. Nice bottle, chill as champers. The great thing with this one, is you can make a buckie or our daughters friend, add a touch of Malibu, n lots of ice. Bon appetite.
