Do you think a hog-roast with a full pig and an apple in his mouth and a mutton-roast on full show will upset children at a wedding party?

I would tell them what to expect before you get there. Last year on holiday we went to a restaurant that had a big tank full of live lobsters. They kept the kids amused throughout the meal. A waiter came along and selected one and took it away. The kids came running back and wanted to know where it was going - the scenario we had been dreading. Expecting hysterical tears, we gently explained that it was going to be cooked for someone to eat. My 2 went running back and chose the ones they wanted for their dinner - the biggest ones! Needless to say our budget didn't stretch to large lobsters.
Why should it upset them? Children ought to know that meat, if they choose to eat it, comes from the little animals we see running round fields. Too many youngsters today don't know where their food comes from and I think that's awful. Everyone should appreciate that an animal gives its life for us to eat, if you're a meat eater (I am, but I can fully appreciate the sentiments of vegetarians), but if that animal has had a good life, free range and well fed, then it's a lot better off than some of the poor things that we get in the supermarket.
