I am interested to find out what foods are acceptable when undertaking a protein only diet and for how long it is sensible to maintain the diet before re-introducing some other food stuffs.

As to how sensible it is.....depends on you. A diet like the Atkins will be high in cholesterol, low in fibre and possibly lack some nutrients (for a balanced remedy to all this see Atkins himself...he does answer all these problems). It still leaves you constipated, though, and you should be carefull if you have any blood cholesterol problems. If you are youngish and healthyish then you can stay on it for a good while. The old problem with diets is that when you come off them you tend to put the weight back on, as you havent changed your lifestyle.
Protein ONLY?
Are you sure that you don't mean low-carb?
The Atkins diet is the most famous, and now [since the death of Atkins],even more emphasizes greens and other vegetables.
You might want to look into it more carefully, before just leaping into a new extreme. There's an official Atkins site, and many other similar regimes can be found on the internet.
Is it health you're after? then you owe it to yourself to, like mom said, use moderation. [I hate that word]
