Not a complete answer but on a tour of a brewery once, the brewer told me how pleased they were that alcopops were becoming popular. (this was a few years back). Making traditional alcoholic drinks takes time with the brewing, fermentation periods etc, whereas alcopops can be made by adding a simple form of alcohol to any fruit drink, so the profit margins for him were huge.
