Vanilla extract is an extract from real vanilla pods whereas vanilla flavouring is just artificial usually.
Can't tell you where to buy as I'm not in UK
vanilla extract is stronger, it's not just a flavouring it is as it says, extracted from the plant. It is available from Tesco in the home baking aisle. Happy baking, Jonukas
Its also available in sainsburies in the speciality foods isle! So much better than essence.
Lakeland sell a large bottle of vanilla extract,do be careful when buying from supermarkets-I got some vanilla extract and also almond from Tesco it wasn't until I used it and found it VERY oily that I read the contents and both are in sunflower oil, never heard of extracts being put into sunflower oil before,I've had to throw it out and start again.
I have got a bottle from Tesco and there is no oil of any sort in mine.

It is from their posher range of herbs n spices and it has black bits in it.
Regarding oil in the essence-have just checked mine, they are Dr. Oetker Almond Natural extract Ingredients: Sunflower oil,Extract of Almond, the vanilla is the same.
