Yes. Politics. Food, if it is good, cannot be "cheap"; stir the pot!........toodle pip

OKay, I know what you should NOT cook!! Chips, cheese and beans.Pizza. ALL the kids in my school eat this, with crisps and choc at break. Their poor little bodies are crying out for some vitamins and the school is not doing a thing to help them.

How about wholemeal pasta in tomato sauce (chopped tomatoes) and tuna? Brown breadcrumbs on top and a teeny bit of cheese. Include veg like baby potatoes, peas, and baked beans. Chick peas are really nice if you buy them cooked.

I think the best way to sort kids health is either to stop doing canteen meals and get the parents to take responsibility by making a packed lunch. The kids simply CANNOT make the decision for themselves. If they see fast food, of course they won't choose the brocolli!! When I was at school we had one set meal a day, and you had to eat it, or as much as you could. As soon as they employed a canteen, my Dad gave me 35p a day and I bought... chips, beans and a doughnut. Every day. Please think of the children!!!

If it's for cooking for lots of people at once cheaply in the fewest pans possible, the ones we for the kids on Cub camps are curry & rice, spagetti bolegnase, corn beef hash (they love that), Sausage & mash. Although we only have gas rings, so these might not be appropriate.
Have a look on Jamie Oliver's web forum, I think there were a lot of ideas on there a few months ago.
