oven cleaning

please has anyone got any good tips for removing baked on mess form a gas oven and hob? I've had it professionally cleaned in the past, and it came up immaculate, not sure what they used, but over the counter stuff doesn't work the same.

I cleaned mine the other day with Oven Mate Hob Cleaner from the kleeneezi catalogue. �3 something, but great stuff!

Thank you to you both, I'm familiar with products from both places, but not used their oven cleaner, just tried mr muscle, but not very good. Seen a product called Oven proud too which has got good reviews.

As suggested above oven mate products are brilliant, i use the oven cleaner, brush it on, ignore for couple of hours and wipe off,and no nasty smell.Also a Kim and Aggie tip that really works for the shelves is to soak them in either dish washer tableats or biological washing powder and really hot water, after 30 mins they just wipe clean :-)

I pop my oven shelves in the dish washer with dish washer tablets and hot wash. they come out immaculate.

Thanks, I'm going to put what I can in the dishwasher now, and I've just ordered from Lakeland :-)
Maybe I shouldn't let it bake on in the first place LOL

Ilve not actually used it but I have been told many times that over proud is fantastic, smells a bit toxic but great stuff

I've used oven pride and I can highly recommend it. Just put all the shelves in the bag, put in the fluid and leave overnight. The next morning rinse the shelves( and then I usually put in the dishwasher) and they're gleaming. I also put some of the fluid on the inside of the oven and leave overnight -just wash off in the morning. It's dead easy!

Thanks for all your replies, and I actually can't wait to use these products, meanwhile I've had some bits in the dishwasher on the intense program, and this certainly made cleaning easier :-)

Make sure you read all the destructions on Oven Pride! It is an awesomely strong product but, I used it where I shouldn't have and oops don't cover it! The chrome coating on the gas ring covers is KNACKED BEYOND BELIEF! They all went black and skanky and for a 12 month old cooker it's awful!

i would recommend being very careful when using oven pride. I used it for my oven shelves and they did come up like new. Unfortunately, I had left them overnight, in the bag thing, on my ceramic hob. When I got up in the morning, there was a tiny tiny hole in the bag. The stuff had slowly leaked out and took all the enamel off the edge of my hob. So my oven looked lovely and my hob looked absolute sh1te. :(

Yep oven pride is brilliannt but very strong, i bought it in savers i think, reasonably priced!!!

Labourious, slightly messy, and time consuming, but chemical free.

I have done mine using a diy steam stripper for decorating (just the hose), elbow grease, and lots of paper towels.

I soak a tea towel in a strong solution of washing soda and drape it over whatever part of the oven I want to clean - leave over night and rinse - works really well and costs pence -

I clean the oven with Fairy Power spray ,
and use brillo pads on the racks , but i
also use roaster bags so the oven doesn't
get splattered with fat .

The Oven Mate range is brilliant
For oven shelves try Oven mate just for racks
For hobs try Oven mate Glass and ceramic hob cleaner
For ovens use Oven mate Oven cleaning gel

Be warned, it is a strong chemical, make sure you wear gloves and make sure you wipe it down thoroughly when you've finished.
If you're talking about he horrid brown shiny stuff that gets left behind, you can only remove it with a harsh chemical cleaner like this, nothing else will touch it. If someone suggests using a 'kinder' or 'natural' cleaning agent, and they have one that works, may I suggest that it's not kinder, it's just something that you are accustomed to seeing around the house and it's actually just as aggressive (or otherwise it wouldn't work) - just remember the dirty coin in brown sauce or carbonated drink trick and understand what you're using.
