What is the difference between Irish and Scottish whiskey and Bourbon whiskey, other than the spelling?

As far as I know the only difference between Irish and Scotch whisky is the name, as both are distilled from fermented malted barley. However, at the risk of starting an argument, in my opinion, Powers Irish whisky is superior.
On the other hand the grain used in the manufacture of Bourbon whisky is corn.

The difference between irish whiskey and scotch is the distillation. Scotch is distilled once and irish whiskey is distilled 3 times.

(As to differences, some round my way say that Irish whiskey going down tastes like Scotch whisky coming up, so no marks for guessing which part of the UK I'm in).... ;-)

So you're saying you're scotch then heathfield, old boy, hehehe ; ) Good link. I'm actually wondering if I gave someone who usually would drink scotch, would they also like bourbon?
