I have just been diagnosed with this problem, and am at present feeling my way with my diet. Any suitable food lists, recommendations for recipe books (I am Weight Watching, as my weight is obviously a contributory cause to the problem) and any other relevant advice would be very much appreciated.
Don't let the diabetes ruin your life its just about healthy eating and exercise and you will be fine, you can still spoil yourself every now and then.
If I could give you one tip that is to walk whenever you can, forget the car, bus, taxi get in to a routine of walking, pounds
will drop off and you will feel better trust me.
both my parents were diagnosed with this about 3 years ago and both managing to control it fine with diet. I could not give specific food recipes or whatever but know my mum has cut out desserts and a scone at supper time etc. Both were fit and healthy before that it was difficult to see what they could change but just by watching and not having sugary things very often my mum has lost a stone!! My dad could not really exercise anymore than he does but my mum has added in little extra walks to her week. The do still enjoy treats now and again - but wont be getting easter eggs for example!!
Not being a diabetic myself, but having lived with a T2 diabetic, one of the better diets to try was the GI Plan. This is not a fad diet, but a mix of fruit, veg & protein etc - its apparantly a favoured diet among the experts as it is all based on healthy eating incl as much of 5 basic food groups in your diet each day.
