Belgium - Leonidas chocolates

Hi,

Does anyone know the price of a 1kg box of Leonidas choclates in either Brussels or Brugge?

I want to get some for Xmas and need to work out if it would be cheaper to go to Belgium to get them.

I've no idea how much they cost but it sounds like a good idea. Is Dairy Box real chocolate? I suppose there must be some chocolate in there to keep the mugs happy

Are you coming to Belgium anyway just before Christmas?  If so, it might be slightly cheaper to get them here, but the difference in price would certainly not be sufficient to pay for your trip (unless you're going to buy a van-load).

 

Good chocolates have a limited shelf life because fresh cream is used in the fillings.

 

If you like, I can check locally (Braine l'Alleud - just south of Brussels) to see how much a kilo costs so that you can compare with the UK prices.

SteveD :- That would be fantastic.  The last time I got some in Brugge it cost me �10 (before the Euro) exactly for a 1Kg box.  Surely the price has risen but hopefully not by a tremendous amount.  And yes it would be around December.  I remember the owner telling me they wouldn't last long, even with refrigeration, because of the fresh cream. 

Richard Head:- Because they are quality chocolates.  I don't wan't to buy them because they come from Belgium.  I wan't to buy them because they are first class quality.  If they were made in a factory in Droitwich I would buy them from there, but the UK doesn't believe in producing excellent quality chocolates - only what they can get away with supplying to consumers.  I don't mind paying more money than the market suggests is proper if I'm getting, by my standards, value for money. Cheap and cheerful - my ar*e!

Selfridges in Oxford Street sell Leonidas chocolates

Unfortunately, The L�onidas shop in Braine L'Alleud has closed, but there is a Corn� one. I expect the prices are similar.  here they are for a "ballotin" (a box with a selection of different chocolates).

 

1 kg = �34.00

700 g = �25.50

470 g = �17.00

353 g = �12.75

235 g = �8.50

 

Divide by 1.438 to convert to pounds sterling.  They're not cheap, are they?

SteveD : Thanks for getting the prices.  I agree they are not cheap (certainly nowhere close to the price I had purchased them before at �10/kg). Hmmm!  Will have to think if quantity purchasing would still be worthwhile - they are damn good though?!?!? Oh well.....thanks anyway.

It would be interesting to compare the above with the price of L�onidas in the UK.  I can't think that Brugge would be any cheaper than Braine L'Alleud as it's such a tourist trap.
