I have been given a bottle of Ortega/Riesling Sylvaner wine with a label Ditchling Dry 1993.

By the looks of the label it was probably purchased in 1993 and has been stored in an old ladies shed.

Is this ok to drink or would it be a fine quality vinegar?

only sure way to tell is to open it and try it, you'll soon know.
I agree with etandron,
If it's a riesling it will be a white wine (presumably) and very few white wines will keep for up to 16 years.
Better to chill it in the fridge and then open it and see, personally I don't think it will be vinegar;but I DON'T think it will be drinkable either.
I would be glad to be proved wrong.

Thank you for those thoughts. I think I'll ditch it to be on the safe side - I rather not get a taster of something probably foul.
You can almost guarantee it's been stored upright instead of on it's side, in which case I'm willing to bet it would be undrinkable filth.
