What are the main differences between potassium and sodium in terms of health harm? And could the potassium variety be just as harmful?

Not an expert at all, but the lo-salt varieties are meant to be better for you than normal sodium salt, as potassium does not contribute to raised blood pressure.   However I did hear a doctor on the radio warning someone who ate half a dozen bananas a day that the potassium in them could lead to heart problems if not monitored
