We brought some roasted chestnuts at a Christmas Market & they were delicious, the kids want me to have a go at home, but I have no idea where to buy them from. Any ideas? I live near to Manchester
They're available in the food/veg markets and most of the supermarkets too - especially for Christmas.
You shouldn't have a problem buying them where you are.
make sure you slow roast them on the hobb in a large heavy frying pan with no oil........ mmmmmmmm..........delicious!
We always cook them in the fire grate at my parents so a coal shovel will make an ideal traditional cooking implement. Always important to stab a hole in the skins (like jacket potatoes) as they can 'pop' from time to time. They go with a bang too!
I cheat and buy frozen peeled ones from waitrose. I make up ordinary paxo packet stuffing and stud it with the frozen chestnuts before putting it in the oven....yummmmm
Thanks everyone for your help - tracked a couple of bags down to Tescos and had them roasted with sprouts, bit of butter & plenty of seasoning YUMMY! - not often that the kids are demanding more sprouts lol!
