What wine do they usually drink, if this person is a red wine drinker; they will have a specific like to a certain wine and it's origin...
You can't go wrong with a shiraz
Tell me if you have a tesco near by, if you do then I can sort you out with a good bottle or red from south africa.
Personally, I like a good Grenache...

Hmm
not a bad idea..
anyone fancy a glass? lol

Yes we have a Tesco quite near us dizmouk2009,I could go to a bit more cash for a good vintage Red Wine, and my friend doesn't know I am bringing a bottle of his famous Red Wine.
Also thankyou Mudman for your help also.
as he's a red wine drinker, he'll have heard of chateau neuf du pape which is usually round £9-£10 a bottle and revered by some. personally i think it's over rated but very drinkable nevertheless. cotes du rhone are also very good red wines and i'd be very pleased if someone bought me a bottle. they can vary in price from a fiver upwards.
on the other hand, oddbins own red in a screw top at £3.99 is perfectly acceptable.
buy a gran reserva rioja, you wont go far wrong with that.

2007 is one of the best years for french red wine from the bordeux region.

Dave.
An Errazuriz Cabernet Sauvignon at just under a tenner is a fine wine.
I have never had a bad Malbec, and you can get them from about a fiver upwards with the nicest ones being around a tenner at Tesco
Chateau Neuf Du Pape ( about £12 ) or St Emilion ( about £10 )

and thankyou doddsredoubt for saying thankyou, far to many people post questions, get replys and dont even say thankyou or post anything after getting some replys.
it makes it worthwhile replying when you get a thankyou.

Hi Dodds... I've lived in Spain for 4 years and didn't really appeciate wine til I moved here. Spain's best kept secret is Ribera Del Duero. The Uk are just starting to cotton onto it.. and it's currently taking the US by storm. They should sell it in good wine shops. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

If you want to play safe.... try the Aussie Yellow Tail range... the Shiraz and Merlot are truly delicious. They are available in most Uk supermarkets.

For a real taste explosion... Dragon's Bull Californian Zinfandel - available from Threshers/Wine Rack. My favourite Red ever.
