Black Tower white wine

I have a bottle of Black Tower wine and there is a picture of a bottle on the label at the back of it with a 4 inside, could anybody tell me what the 4 refers to, and what temperature it should be served at?

I think the 4 in the bottle picture on the label refers to number of alcohol units in the whole bottle.

are you sure? that's not a lot of units for a bottle of wine?

I think it refers to the sweetness of the wine.1 being dry, 2 being not quite so dry, 3 getting sweeter etc. 4 being quite sweet I should think.

Ps I didn't know you could still get Black Tower lol. Does it still come in the black nobbly bottle???

You're right it doesn't seem a lot, but they do that on beer bottles.

I've just looked at my bottle of ' White cloud' in the fridge and on the back it has a little bottle that says ' 8.6 uk units' - which would suggest that the 4 on your does refer to units. It does seem low though.

missnemesis is correct.
It's consumer guidance labelling.
The normal scale is 1 to 9.
1 is very dry, like some New World Sauvignon Blancs.
9 is sweetest, like a Sauternes.
Black Tower is a medium scale White. 4 means it is not too dry. You might describe it as "fruity" perhaps.

A bottle of Black Tower will contain around 6 alcohol units.

So is there not any consistency in labelling of wine then, winebuyer? The picture of the bottle on mine definitely refers to units, and there is a seperate thing above it to show you dryness/ sweeteness. Therefore if I was to take a bottle of Black tower of the shelf tomorrow, I would see the little 4 in a bottle, assume it referred to units and end up drinking way more units than i believed.

He is right mcfluff and it isnt a lot for a bottle. A unit is a glass of wine, so they are really saying that a bottle is four glasses. It depends on the size of your glass I suppose.

Tullia.........A bunch of us used to go to a Turkish kebab place in Stoke Newington. It didn't have a drinks licence so we would bring in bottles of Hirondel from the local pub and get totally rat-ars*d.

errr it depends on the abv of the wine and a glass of wine is not one unit!

Work out your alcohol units for yourself with this handy sum: Strength (ABV) x Volume (ml) ÷ 1000 = No. of units.

E.g. Pint of Stella - 5.2 x 568 ÷ 1000 = 2.95
