22 Answers
I was making lasagne today and poured a jar of the white topping sauce (ASDA brand), oh my god.. is it suppose to have a strong smell? the sauce was lumpy too...eeww ive never made one before, so i thought it was normal, after the lasagne was made... i tasted it and everything tasted nice apart from the white sauce......... it just tasted Stilton cheese or gone off sauce.....you reckon the sauce gone bad?? i checked the BB and its until July 2011... ...i feel sick but i think my minds playing tricks on me...

i made a lasagne for the first time too the other night, a veg one, and i used a jar of tesco white lasagne sauce 78p for a big jar.
there wasnt hardly any smell attall and it wasnt lumpy as such, it was just fairly thick and i had to spread it out with the back of a spoon.
it all tasted really lovely when it was all cooked with no strange taste..
so im not sure why yours smelt so perculiar, im sure...?

yeah, it doesnt sound right smelling so bad as you say it does, and like i said with the jar i used there wasnt much smell attall, if any..
maybe you should do as mosaic says and take the jar back to the shop.
i wonder if the seal on the lid had been 'popped' while the jar was still on the shop shelf, thus making it go off..?

It certainly sounds like it's a bit iffy Whitebears!! I always make a cheese sauce when I make lasagne, but I LOVE cheese sauce and lasagne with a bechamel sauce just doesn't taste right to me. If you do make it again, buy a packet of basic cheese sauce mix and use that instead, unless you want to make it from scratch. Or if you don't like cheese sauce buy a white sauce packet :o)
