how to use meath thermometer
4 Answers
I bought one of those thermometers for checking if meat is done, now my sister who is on a cooking course seems to think that it is used to occasionally test the meat whilst being cooked. but from what the instructions imply you leave the probe in the meat whilst it is in the oven. it has a metal shielded cable that plugs into the thermometer so its quite feasable that the thin cable can pass through the door to give you real time info on your meat. am I going nuts or have I got it ?

Usually, the ones with the shielding on the cable as you describe are for leaving in the meat during cooking. The control remains outside of the oven and should have an alarm mechanism to let you know when the interior of th eroast has reached the pre-set temperature. Usually, about 140 degrees F for medium doneness.
Keep in mind the roast will continue to cook for about 15 to 20 minutes after removing from the oven and the interior temperature will increase somewhat...
