I am aware that AB does not approve of advertising. Consequently, it could be that my 'chips are down' on this one.( AB Editorial may remove my question.)

Auntie Bessie oven chips - in fact I am eating them at this moment Ron.
The spicy curly fries asda sell, we have a bag in the freezer but can;t remember who makes them
Tesco's Crinkle Cut chips aren't bad...
Oven chips! Chips are for frying, nothing less, oven chips....urgh1
Yes Aunt Bessies are great. Tesco's also did gorgeous beer battered chips but I haven't been able to find them in my local one recently.
I've just bought some beer battered fish from asdas, never had it before but it looks good on the packet!
What is wrong with the women of today, when they cant be bothered to buy real potatoes and fry them?

Or is it they don't know how to? : -)
thetruthhurts is spot on! Oven chips, like ready-made Yorkshire puds are for lazy people with very little taste and more money than sense. If you want perfect delicious-tasting chips, buy some potatoes, peel and chip them, blanche them (boiling in water for 5 mins), let them cool, pat them dry then fry in deep fat (or oil). This way you will get a tasty, solid chip, unlike oven-ready ones, which are basically reconsituted mashed potato.
And what is wrong with the men of today, when they can't be bothered to buy real potatoes and fry them?

Or is it they don't know how to?

Touche, trt?
Exactly lucca real chips that you cut and fry mmmmm
Aunt Bessies do lovely roast potatoes. I personally think they are as good as the real thing, and so much more convenient. (Expensive though - I tend to buy them when I can find them on 2 for 1).

(Sorry Ron, I know that's not answering your question - just thought I'd throw it in the mix).

[:o)
When you live alone it's very difficult to muster the enthusiasm to make real chips for one...
I buy them Mrs C.........great if you're only cooking for 1.
Aw bless Lie in king.

I usually make my own, but I do have an Unopened bag of roasted parsnips in the freezer. The only thing wrong with them is I have to cook them on 220f or Gas7 for about 50 minutes all that for parsnips that I could cook from fresh in less the time.
I agree craft. I'm usually only cooking for two these days. My OH prefers real spuds though, so I make the effort sometimes.

Mind you, I haven't had an oven for about six weeks now, so any bloomin' home roast would be lovely! (If my builder gets any slower he'll grind to a halt). [;o(
Agree Mrs C Aunt Bessies roasties are as good as the real thing, if not better, as are tesco's finest version IMO.
I've not tried Tescos Prudie, but I'll look out for them when I'm next shopping there.
Slice up spuds, slodge on olive oil and salt / pepper, slam in oven and have half a bottle of vino tinto while you wait c. 45 min. Delicious. Jamie Oliver-ish.
Whatever brand of oven chips you buy, forget the oven. You'll find they taste far, far better if you deep fry them. It only takes an inch or so of oil, and since most are part-cooked beforehand, they only take a minute or two, a few at a time. Taste the difference!

All the replies, which so far I've had, are really interesting. I have no objection to anyone making reference to roast potatoes; which fall into the similar category as chips.

I have often thought whether I should get a 'Deep Fryer' ....What say you folk.

Regards....Roastie Ron.
