Cheetos are produced the the American company, Frito-Lay, which is part of the PepsiCo empire. In the UK they were distributed (and probably manufactured by) Walker's, which is a subsidiary of Frito-Lay.

In 2002 a rival company, Golden Wonder, changed hands. Although Walker's didn't buy the company, it did buy one of their successful brand names, Wotsits. That left Walkers with two very similar products, and it was decided to keep the brand with the biggest sales (Wotsits) in favour of the smaller-selling Cheetos.

Hence you can now only buy Cheetos in the UK if they've been specially imported from the USA (or from another country where Frito-Lay, or a subsidiary company, still manufacture them under that brand name).
