use dried beans

slightly mroe sensible answer than my first :-) (but they would of worked unless they were plastic in which case....)
I think you mean baking beans. I have got two boxes of special ceramic "baking beans", but always used to use a packet of dried beans, such as haricots ....
rice
Rice. Put a sheet of baking parchment or greaseproof paper over the pastry and put rice on top.
Rice grains, not rice pudding.

We haven't got much rice left, how thick would you suggest piling the stuff? half a cm, a whole cm?
molly, just prick the base all over with a fork, and bake, when taking out of the oven, just press lightly all over with the back of a spoon
Coins, if you have (you won't) a jar of coppers put them on top of greaseproof paper.
Greaseproof and dried peas
mum used to use macaroni on greaseproof paper... just something with a bit of weight would do...
