Is it just me, or could it be because other people have different kinds of toast but . . .

. . . is toast that's made in a toaster crunchier than toast done using a grill?

It makes sense as there is "airspace" around the toast when it's in a toaster and both sides are heated at once. Grilling it may keep some moisture inside - I prefer grilled toast.

We don't have a toaster but I had some round my friends the other day and it was noticeably crunchier than my normal toast, I didn't know if it could be down to just the toaster/grill or if it was to do with the make and freshness of the bread.

If the sugars become fibre when bread is toasted, does that mean toast is better for you than bread?
Molly I missed you, it was too quiet.
I remember toasting bread on a fork over a coal fire. Nowadays the health police would probably hold up their hands in horror, but boy, did it taste good!
I remember that. Indeed there were toasting forks especially for that purpose.

Someone did that when I went camping once, and they ruined the fork and burnt themselves.
Did you used to roast chestnuts on a shovel over the fire.......and if you were lucky one popped off and burnt your sister's leg?
Leviathon - here's one I prepared earlier! (in reality, I think a dog or a coyote had got at the poor thing)

Our fork was a weird construction made of four strands of what looked like (maybe was) twisted fence wire that ended in four prongs. Did the job, though

Just had 2 bits of toast with Marmite & peanut butter - mmmm, dribble, drool...
Pretty tough - I prodded it and it was hard but slightly flexible. Yes I suppose some tosspiece with a gun may have popped it for fun.
