I never eat the things..eeeuuggh.
But-when I do them at work,I have the water at a good simmer,I break the egg into a cup-then tip it into the swirling water. As soon as it looks to boil,I turn the water down to a simmer. I find how well the eggs turn out is also dependent on the freshness of the eggs. Sometimes they just won't co-operate.... ;-))

And...

Shove them in the microwave - making sure the yolks are broken first
I've always found that the faster the swirl is going, the better the shape of the poached egg

have you tried breaking the egg into a plastic bag and suspending it in boiling water? Bit fiddly til you get it right but the egg stays together and the pan stays clean.

And sometimes a bit of a swirl does help.

if i was really serious about poached eggs, id get one of those round thingys which fits a pan with 4 plastic inserts designed for eggs. this would be a good investment.
did try the plastic bag and cling film, bloody mess, most of the eg white stuck to the plastic bag or film
I've done 4, so 6 shouldn't be a problem

Delicious on toast with grilled bacon, healthy,
to poach a number of eggs use a tall stockpot filled with 8g vinegar and 15 g salt per litre of water, with the water kept at the boil. The eggs will disappear into the depths and rise to thesurface when ready.
forget vinegar, salt, etc. have a look at this, give the cling film method a try and you'll never do it any other way:

tried the plastic thing in microwave, big explosion as lid shot off and snapped, I do the pan thing now
I have no time for plastic bags....I'd get hooted at....lol

Besides-half the fun is the unpredictability...heehee.
Is it legal to poach eggs?
I use a pan with plastic inserts.....and my yolks are fine.

I've tried the clingfilm method. They do come out prettier but are bit too time consuming. I find simmering water and fresh as possible eggs are the best..
