Just noticed that I have got a couple of tubs of yogurt left in the fridge with the date 01 Sept on them

It does NOT say ' use before / by ' or ' best before '

Just the date .

Will I keel over if i consume them ?

Probably not! Dates are a guide and provided the food doesn't look or smell off, then go for it.
I've consumed yoghurt over a month beyond it's sell by date and haven't keeled over yet

Sell by/use by dates are a commercial con to make us buy more.
hear hear!! i with you canary42, well said
Even if it had gone off it's very unlikely to do you any harm.
Ive ofetn eaten yoghurts up to a month after the sell by date. Mind you, i've recently grown two extra fingers and webbed feet !!! lol
I would not say that sell by and use by date are a commercial con.....but they may be seen by some manufacturers as a means to protect their a***s.......just in case an 'off' one does make you ill. Unfortunately-these dates have only served to contribute to the massive mountain of food that the UK throws away each year.
