I have to say I go Organic whenever I can - especially for meat/chicken etc - have you seen what they put in animals to make them grow.

The guidelines and goalposts of what can claim to be 'organic' have been so tinkered with as to render the labelling redundant.

I try to support local producers (however they farm) wherever possible and that satisfies my green credentials, for me. :o)
I will not buy organic food because I will not be robbed blind by anyone!!

I used to work in a cerial processing plant, when the organic cerials came in it was treated with the same insecticides as the rest of the cerials so that it doesnt infest everything else in storage, Ilegal im sure, we supplied some of the largest breafast cerial manufacturers in this country.

Its all a lot of nonsense, We just buy fresh produce and we rarely buy convenience foods.

and anything that is out of date goes in the bin! I like fresh food, maybe it is safe to eat, I just like that cut off point!

Did you see the programme about where your food comes from last night?

Supermarkets have trademarked names like "Willow Farm" and so when you see, "Willow Farm Chicken", your mind conjures up a thatched cottage with chickens free running in lazy meadows, when in fact it could come from anywhere with the chickens been treated terribly.

Same with things like "Farmer's Market" Soup by Heinz. It's just a brand name. If they could register "organic" or "fresh" as a brand name, it would be even more misleasing.
I have an organic veg box delivered because I wanted to eat seasonally and have more variety in our diet, we were slipping into the habit of buying the same things week in week out. I have found this to reduce our shopping bill quite a lot.

I buy my meat from the local butchers who supply high quality free range meat.

For other fresh produce e.g. cheese, I buy what I fancy at farmers markets, I tend to go for what looks best or what catches my eye.

I won't blindly buy organic anything if the conventional product looks better.
No it's not worth it.

I bought an organic chicken for £7 that just about fed the two adults. It did taste much better but to feed the family that would be £14....it didn't taste that nice..!!

I have a greengrocer and butchers up the road which I try to use as much as possible.
I do like to know the provenance of my fruit and vegetables and how they're grown but obviously it's not always possible. I tend to grow as many of my own veg and soft fruit as garden space allows, so at least I know what I pick is organic.

Thanks for your answers. It concerns me that we're being ripped off, but I have to say some organic food definitely taste much better. Also I wonder how much better it is for our health, but if Ratter says it's treated with the same insecticides as everything else, perhaps that sold in supermarkets isn't better for our health at all. I live in the country, I rarely buy processed foods, and I get a lot from farm shops, but I haven't been well for quite a while and I'm wondering if abandoning supermarket food altogether would help me.
